Olivia is a super sweet, easy-going, beautiful girl. For her age, Olivia has a maturity that I don’t see much in youngsters. She has very good house manners, is not high energy, and living with her is fun and joyful. Olivia has a steady, stable temperament and everyone who meets her remarks on her great disposition. With my own big dogs, Olivia gets along with them well and it is fun to watch her run and play. However, when they want to relax, Olivia doesn’t taunt them to play more. Instead she finds a doggie bed of her own to curl up on. She definitely likes soft things as she has been known to trick my dogs off the bed she likes the most. She doesn’t maneuver them directly. It is very subtle and funny to watch. Olivia has a lot of personality. And, her cute face makes her so irresistible!
For her history, Olivia was found as a stray and ended up in one of the local shelters. How frightening for a puppy. When I first met her at the shelter, I could see the fear in her eyes. When Olivia entered my home, I could tell she was overwhelmed by all the change. One day she is loose on the streets, the next day she finds herself in a kennel with all kinds of barking dogs and smells around her, then she is transported to my home for fostering. So much happened to this puppy in such a short period of time. However, once she figured out she was loved and cherished by my family and me, her fears subsided and, in a couple days, she relaxed. Whoever adopts Olivia needs to be prepared that she may need time to adjust to her new surroundings. Gently reassuring her, as well as softly stroking her body, are methods Olivia responds to best. She is a sensitive girl and can be somewhat fearful of harsh tones.
Olivia enjoys being with people. She has self confidence and greets people with happy tail wags. And, If there are pettings being offered, Olivia knows how to push her way to the front of the line. Like I said before, she is very irresistible! Olivia has good German Shepherd instincts and she is one of the first dogs in my home to alert me to strange noises outside. She is not afraid to run down to the front door and let anyone on the other side know she is in the house. Olivia is also house and crate trained.
Wherever Olivia came from, her previous owners did not take the time to train her. Olivia only knows the “sit” command. Because of her young age, Olivia will need owners who are committed to obedience training, so as she becomes an adult, she will know her boundaries. Olivia easily corrects, as she just wants to please her owners. Positive reinforcement and gentle corrections are what Olivia responds to best. She will also need daily exercise. Currently, Olivia does not have many leash manners. When on a walk, she will pull at the leash and is easily distracted by smells and other animals. Very typical of a young German Shepherd. But, Olivia is a very smart girl, so training her should go swiftly.
