Special Considerations for Adoption:  Lokey might do well with younger children, but he is still learning not to be mouthy.

Lokey is a super energetic one year old boy. He came to us with essentially no training and clearly did not ever have rules enforced. After a few short days, leash training is going extremely well. He is learning not to pull, and barking at other dogs is not acceptable. His recall on walks is getting really good, and he's starting to turn around to look back without being prompted. He is food motivated, so that has made training much easier.  Lokey loves to play with any toy available, including rope tug of war toys, balls, or anything with a squeaker. He prefers to play with these toys with the closest available human. As he is still young and learning, he has not learned the polite way to ask other dogs to play (and he really wants to play with them!). He's not the best at picking up on cues from other dogs who do not want to engage in play. While he is not possessive of toys, he is possessive of food and treats.

While he can be quite energetic at times, Lokey knows when to settle down for quiet time. He's great at napping and/or keeping himself busy with a chew toy while we work during the day. In the evenings, he loves to join us on the couch for snuggles. He definitely lives up to the velcro-GSD characteristic, always wanting to be by your side, and is afraid of missing out on anything exciting you may be doing.

Note to adopters: Lokey will make a great dog for an active family, as he will need a lot of exercise. He will also need a strong leader who will continue to enforce consistent rules and work with him on training. Lokey would benefit greatly from a group obedience training class where he can learn to be around other dogs without being quite so reactive.
