Adler

Hello friends! My name is Adler. You can tell by looking at me that I am quite the handsome guy, but I’m so much more than ridiculously good looking.

When I first got to my foster parents’ house, I was a real mess. I had so much anxiety that I just could not settle down. Going on walks and chasing the ball didn’t really help - the only thing that worked was time. I’m going to need some time to settle in and get comfortable in my new home. 

I respond very well to redirection and routines. When I first got to my foster house, I didn’t even know how to sit, but once I learned, they started making me sit to do everything! Want the ball? Sit. Want to go outside. Sit. Want to eat my food. Sit. But I’ve learned now, and the humans are soooo impressed. Every night when they brush their teeth, I go lie down inside my crate like a good boy. I sleep through the night inside my crate without any issues at all. I am going to need to have a forever family who makes me follow rules and has a routine for me, otherwise my anxiety comes back. 

In the mornings, we go for a walk with my two foster sisters, and I do very well on a leash. I’m still learning not to get so excited when we see other dogs or people, but I just really love everyone and want to say “hi!” I really want to play with my GSD foster sisters, but I’m still learning how to be a dog and play with other dogs. We do like seeing who is fastest to get the ball, and it’s always me. I’m really fast! I love to play ball, like, all the time! Ball! So if you have a big yard for us to play ball, that would make me so happy. 

When it comes to cuddles, I am simply the best. I try to climb into my foster parents’ laps to get them to hold me and pet me. Sometimes I forget that I’m a pretty big guy, but I get down when they ask me to. I really love them. I love kids, too. You just have to remember that I’m a really big guy, so older kids, or kids experienced with big dogs might be better for me. Overall, I’m just a super sweet guy looking for my forever home. 

Note from Adler’s foster: Adler is going to need a strong leader and constant correction until he learns your home, rules, and routines. He tries to push the limits and he is constantly testing us to see what he can get away with (not sitting all the way, barking once or twice after we tell him enough, etc). He is not a couch potato - if you leave his toys out, he will continuously bring them to you for you throw for him, 24/7. I wouldn’t recommend that anyone new to dog ownership try to adopt him, because he is going to need a lot more training, and a whole lot of exercise. Please don’t let that scare you away from what an absolutely fantastic and sweet boy he is. He is definitely one of the snuggliest fosters we have ever had - just probably way too much dog for someone new to the breed or dog ownership. Whoever the stronger leader and rule enforcer is in your house is who Adler will choose as his person.
