Welcome to Greater Houston German Shepherd Dog Rescue!

Greater Houston German Shepherd Dog Rescue (GHGSDR) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We are a breed-specific group dedicated to the rescue of German Shepherd Dogs (GSDs); and do not knowingly accept mixed-breed dogs into our program. Our GSDs are obtained from public shelters where they are scheduled to be euthanized or they are given to us directly by their owners. All dogs receive the necessary health care, including spaying/neutering and are micro-chipped and then are placed in a foster home until they are adopted. Our dogs are guaranteed a place in our organization throughout their life. We provide information and education to the community with emphasis on the importance of spaying/neutering and heart-worm prevention, and we work with transporters, animal shelters and other rescue organizations to develop a better life for all GSDs.

2011

There are many times when life just isn't fair. Take Heidi, for example. This is a lovely female GSD with a great temperment. She's housebroken, gets along well with dogs, children of all ages and adults. She's beautiful, sweet and an all around wonderful representative of her breed. And yet, here she is, still looking for a loving home after all this time. But Heidi doesn't hold a grudge and is a great tale of survival and inspiration. She came to us a couple of year's ago, was adopted but returned after a few months due to a previously unknown allergy in the adopter's family. Heidi is also a cancer surviver. She's been treated for cancer and is currently cancer-free and healthy, but as anyone with a life threatening illness will tell you, there are no guarantees. That's why we want to find Heidi a home that will love and cherish her as much as she deserves. Her spirit and personality shine in her eyes and she would make some lucky person a perfect companion to enjoy the sunny days and the rain, the good days and the bad. She's been there, she deserves the fairy tale ending of "happily ever after". Will you be her prince/princess charming?

Hi, my name is Heidi.

Please come and meet me. I'd love nothing more than spending the rest of my days just being loved by you.
