Deuce is a big, stunning young male. He has soulful eyes and facial expressions that make him seem so much older than his (almost) three years. Deuce came to us from a loving family, who sadly could no longer keep him. He lived with his two humans and the family cat. Deuce has been well loved, and well cared for, and has had some training. Since joining our rescue, however, he has had some major changes to adjust to. He has done exceedingly well.
First, Deuce is learning what “pack life” is like. He has two big resident dogs that he shares the home with, along with another GSD foster (Portia), and a resident cat. Deuce is well aware that the cat is not “his” cat. This cat hisses and swats. He barks at her when she stares him down, and chases her when she hits the floor. While he is not overly aggressive with the cat, (more curious than anything) I would label him as cat tolerant, and not cat friendly. Any cat introductions would have to be done with great caution.
Deuce gets along very well with the two large dogs, and abides by the boundaries set by the oldest dog. He loves to carry a ball around, and would play fetch for days. The resident dogs love to play tug-of-war with rope, bones, etc. Deuce has not yet realized that this is a game and that the “noises” from the other dogs are happy sounds. Deuce has great house manners, and does not get on the furniture. He seems a little put out when the other dogs do get up on the couch. When he wants peace and quiet, he will nudge the door of his crate open and go in and lie down.
Deuce is house trained, crate trained, and walks great on a leash. He knows how to sit, lie down, and stay on command. When he wants your attention, he will nudge you with his nose. If you are standing, he will circle your legs, lean into you and look up with his beautiful dark eyes so you will pet him. He loves to have his ears scratched – purring if you get it just right. This dog is looking for someone to bond with. He will not let me out of his sight, and follows me from room to room.
Deuce is looking for a wonderful family that will adopt him and love him forever. Is that you?
