GHGSDR Guardian Sponsorship Program

GHGSDR is excited to announce a program that will allow individuals, families, and businesses to sponsor one of the many dogs who come into our group for rehabilitation and adoption into their forever home.  The Guardian Sponsorship Program is a financial contribution that helps with the life-saving medical treatment, expenses, and care that are required to save these wonderful dogs and place them in the perfect forever home.

Please consider joining the GHGSDR Guardian Sponsorship Program.  Your contributions will not only save lives, but also bring joy and happiness to GSDs like Snow and Bella who have previously known nothing but pain, suffering, and loneliness.  For more information on the Guardian Sponsorship Program, please click here.

KYA

Hi My name is Kya.......

The beginning of my new life started when I was found running lost by Harris County Animal Control. Although I am young, I looked like an old haggard dog. I had been bred over and over again in my short life, and finally dumped. I was emaciated, exhausted, missing most of my fur, I had a bacterial and a yeast infection of my skin, sarcoptic mange, serious infections in both ears and eyes, a heart murmer, and am HW positive. When I arrived at the shelter, even the people there were shocked, yet they kept telling me how sweet I was. They wanted to help me, so they made some calls, and since I am mostly German Shepherd, they begged Greater Houston GSD Rescue to take me. The rescue group sent out an email to other rescuers asking for help, since they knew I was going to be a large investment. Within two hours, enough funds had been donated that I could be taken from the shelter, and put in Alvin Animal Clinic. I could hardly believe that after all I have been through people wanted to help ME. They took wonderful care of me at the clinic.  They were always stopping by to talk with me or take me outside,  and even gave me a blanket, toys and chews.  Six weeks later my skin, ears and eyes are healthy, and my fur is starting to come back.  I still have a way to go before I have my complete beautiful thick fur coat, ruff and tail, but I feel so much better! And my heart murmur has improved so it is barely there. I still look older than I am and like I've had a rough life, but I am told I am getting younger and prettier looking by the day......for more information on Kya, click here.

Greater Houston German Shepherd Dog Rescue (GHGSDR)
We are a 501(c)(3) exempt volunteer organization dedicated to saving as many German Shepherds in the Greater Houston, Texas area as humanly possible --based on current resources of available foster homes, the rate at which we can find suitably matched adoptive homes, and, of course, financial resources for veterinary care.

GHGSDR Shepherds mostly come from animal shelters where they are awaiting euthanasia.  All of these Shepherd Dogs need loving, forever homes and families to call their own.  We have several GSDs available for adoption and we regularly take more homeless German Shepherds under our wings and into our Rescue Program, increasing the numbers of German Shepherds available for adoption.  Whenever we can, we also work with other dog rescue groups in Texas and nationwide to help ensure the safety and security of these wonderful animals.

Houston, Have You Heard?
German Shepherd Dogs are tremendously popular, and Houston is a huge city...these combined facts create a problem for area GSDs as many are surrendered to local area shelters or go without adequate housing and care.

Thus, German Shepherd Rescue and adoptions are more urgently needed in Houston, Texas.  We are very pleased to announce that Rescue and Adoption efforts continue for area Shepherds!  This dispells the myth ... Yes, there truly is a dog rescue organization in Houston for German Shepherd Dogs --  and you've found us helping these Great GSDs currently in need of our care.  Greater Houston German Shepherd Dog Rescue may be a new rescue group, but our volunteers are very dedicated to enhancing the possibilities for brighter futures and new beginnings -- one GSD at a time!
